Check out the classic cars at Annandale's Juke Box Diner

Every Friday evening, the parking lot at the Juke Box Diner in Annandale is transformed into an impromptu classic car show, as car enthusiasts show off their dream machines.
On the most recent Friday evening, Mike Cumberland was hoping someone would be interested in buying his 1967 red Ford Galaxie 500, a huge convertible in pristine condition with lots of new parts (top right photo). The transmission and brakes have been replaced, and it has power steering. “The odometer says 83,000, but I wouldn’t swear to it,” says Cumberland, a former resident of the Columbia Pines neighborhood in Annandale.

If you’re interested, you can call him at 703/615-5519. The asking price is $16,000. Once the Galaxy is sold, Cumberland won’t be without classic wheels; he also has a ’67 Dodge and ’68 Mercury Cougar.

Charlie Brown (lower right), who runs the service department at the Pinecrest Exxon station, brought his 1967 black Dodge Charger to the Juke Box lot, on the corner of Columbia Pike and John Marr Drive. “I’ve always had Chrysler products. My first car was a 1972 Challenger,” he says. And Mark Lyon, who had relocated from Annandale to Burke, was there with his first classic car, a 1964 Cadillac (below), which he christened “Haroline” in honor of his recently deceased mother.

The oldest car on the lot was a curvaceous, turquoise 1937 Dodge Business Coupe (middle photo above). The owner, an Annandale resident named George, says the transmission and drive train had already been replaced when he acquired it eight years ago. Since then he installed new turn signals, bumpers, wheels, windshield wipers, and seatbelts—just about everything has been replaced but the body. This one’s not for sale. “It’s irreplaceable to me,” George says. But if someone offered him $75,000 in cash, “I’d think about it,” he says.

  1. Maybe I'll bring my '95 Camry next Friday.

  2. If you are interested in classic and custom cars, come check out the Bailey's Crossroads Auto Show on September 15th.
