Gordon MacIntyre Cole, a strong supporter of efforts to revitalize Annandale, passed away Feb. 22. Cole, 57, retired from the Secret Service in December after a long, distinguished career. He was a former chair of the Annandale Central Business District Planning Committee (ADBDPC), an elder in the John Calvin Presbyterian Church, and was a volunteer with ACCA (Annandale Christian Community for Action). Among those he leaves behind are his wife of 31 years, Mary Ellen Cole, and his children, Joanna, Aaron, and Peter.
“Gordon was a giant in our efforts to revitalize Annandale,” says Dan McKinnon, current chair of the ACBDPC. “Gordie was an authority on land use and all of the nooks and corners and peculiarities of Annandale. He could read, understand, and interpret a site plan while I was still trying to figure out which side was the top. He will be missed by all of Annandale.”
A memorial service will be held this Saturday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at the John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 6531 Columbia Pike, Annandale.
