FX CO farmers markets open this week

Last year at the Wakefield
Farmers Market
This week marks the beginning the farmers market season, offering Fairfax County residents an opportunity to purchase fresh, local produce.

There are two farmers markets in the Annandale area:
  • The Wakefield Farmers Market, at Wakefield Park, 8100 Braddock Road, is open Wednesdays, 2-6 p.m., from May 4 though Oct. 26.
  • The Annandale market, in Mason District Park, 6623 Columbia Pike, is open Thursdays, 8 a.m.-12 p.m., from May 5 through Nov. 3.

Shopping at farmers markets is a great way to support local farmers and sustainable agriculture, find varieties of fresh produce not available in supermarkets, meet growers and food producers, and teach your children where food comes from.
There are 12 farmers markets run by the Fairfax County Park Authority through the Community Horticultural office based at Green Spring Gardens. All products sold at the markets must come from vendors within 125 miles of the county.
Both the Annandale and Wakefield markets have plant clinics run by master gardens. People can bring plant or insect samples for pest identification or disease diagnosis.

These vendors will be at the Annandale market:

  • Bonaparte Breads - bakery
