Raintree condo fire displaces eight people

An accidental fire at a townhouse at 3356 Wheatwheel Lane in the Raintree condominiums in Annandale Dec. 1 caused approximately $50,000 in damages, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reported.

There were no injuries. Six adults and two children have been displaced, and they are being assisted by the Red Cross. It took firefighters just 10 minutes to extinguish the fire, which had been contained in the basement area. Residual smoke caused damage to other parts of the house.

According to fire investigators, the fire was caused by incense burning in a basement closet too close to combustible materials. The fire department urges people to not store combustible materials in closed areas or near a heat source and keep at least three feet clearance around any device that creates heat and that could ignite combustible materials.
