The first fire fatality in Fairfax County since September 2010 occurred May 24, when Carroll Adams, 91, succumbed to his injuries from a fire in his apartment at 1808 Old Meadow Road in Dunn Loring, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reported May 29.
According to fire investigators, Adams’ clothing caught fire while he was cooking on a stove. He suffered thermal burns and was transported by ground to Washington Hospital Center’s Burn Unit with life threatening injuries.
When firefighters arrived at approximately 9:40 p.m., they found the fire had been extinguished by a neighbor. Damage is estimated at $2,000.
