Annandale's 'anti-fat pastor' hosts 5K next Saturday

Capital Baptist Church is hosting the sixth annual Losing to Live 5K Run/Walk Saturday, June 15, to help raise awareness about healthy lifestyles.

The Annandale church has a strong focus on weight loss and health—based on scripture—as a result of Pastor Steve Reynolds’ successful struggles with obesity.

After turning to the Bible in a successful quest to lose weight, he shed more than 100 points and created the Losing to Live weight loss competition, resulting in participants losing more than 16,000 pounds during the past six years. Known as the “anti-fat pastor,” Reynolds has publicized his message about healthy lifestyles through Jesus in books and TV appearances.

The Losing to Live 5K Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m. in the Capitol Baptist Church parking lot, 3504 Gallows Road. There will also be a Fun Run for kids at 8:30 a.m.

Members of the public can register for the 5K online; at Metro Run/Walk, 7261 Commerce St., Springfield, on June 14, 4-7 p.m.; or at Capitol Baptist on race day, 7:15-8:45 a.m. Organizations are encouraged to provide financial assistance to support the event or gifts for participants.
