Parking restrictions proposed for central Annandale

Trucks on Daniels Avenue.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will consider on Sept. 10 the establishment of parking restrictions on several streets in central Annandale to prevent long-term parking by commercial trucks.

The measure would prohibit commercial vehicles from parking on Daniels Avenue (between Maple Place and 4104 Daniels Ave.), the Little River Turnpike service road (between John Marr Drive and 7205 Little River Turnpike), and Poplar Street (between Annandale Road and Daniels Avenue). The restriction would be in effect seven days a week.

The Board of Supervisors will vote on the authorization of a public hearing on the parking restrictions to take place Oct. 8, 4 p.m., in the Fairfax County Government Center.

The restrictions were requested by members of the Annandale Central Business District Planning Committee, who complained that dump trucks, tow trucks, delivery trucks and other large vehicles, many from out of state, are reducing the capacity of on-street parking for local businesses and other uses. If the restriction is approved, the trucks are likely to move to other streets.

  1. There are plenty of empty streets in McLean and Great Falls where they could park.

  2. Why are they parking there? Is this daytime or overnight parking? What are the alternatives? Has anyone talked to the companies who are doing this?
