Small strip mall planned for Black Tie Cleaners site on Annandale Road

Black Tie Cleaners

Black Tie Valet Cleaners at 3037 Annandale Road, Falls Church, has closed to make way for a small strip shopping center.

There are still some plastic-wrapped clothes hanging inside, and a handwritten note on the door says, “If we are not here and you still haven’t picked up your clothes, TO LATE (Just kidding)” and gives a phone number to arrange for pick up.

There’s also a notice stating the cleaners will reopen in the new building in June 2014, although that appears to be optimistic. A drawing of the new building identifies future stores, but that’s just an illustration, said Justin Kim, who’s managing the renovation project for the owner, Park Ray. The new building hasn’t been listed with a real estate agent yet.

The shopping center will be about 8,000 to 9,000 square feet and will have four or five stores, depending on how much space the prospective businesses will want, Kim said.

Kim said demolition should take place in late November, and construction will take eight to 12 months. “Black Tie Plaza has been in the works for a while. We tried to start three or four years ago; it took a lot of time for the paperwork.” The property is zoned C-5 (neighborhood retail).

“Black Tie Valet Cleaners will definitely be back,” Kim said. “We have a lot of loyal customers who were upset to see it close but are happy it will reopen.”

Before it was a cleaners, the barn-shaped building was a Red Barn restaurant. It was built in 1968.
