Free workshop on how faith communities can grow food for the needy

Members of Columbia Baptist Church raise food for the needy.
The public is invited to a free workshop in Annandale on how faith communities can develop gardens to benefit local food pantries or members of their congregation.

The “Community Garden Harvests that Make a Difference” workshop takes place Sunday, Sept. 28, 3-5 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Annandale, 7610 Newcastle Drive, Annandale.

Experts from the Fairfax County Park Authority and Virginia Cooperative Extension will offer advice on how to start and maintain a community garden. Members of religious institutions that have community gardens will talk about their experiences, including Georgianna Hall of Columbia Baptist Church in Bailey’s Crossroads.

The session is hosted by the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services and the Partnership for a Healthier Fairfax. Register online or contact the Community Interfaith Coordination Office,, 703-324-3453.
