Gym planned for Bailey's Upper Elementary School

The design of the gym for Bailey's Upper Elementary School.

Representatives of Fairfax County Public Schools presented the plans for a gymnasium and outdoor play area for Bailey’s Upper Elementary School to the Bailey’s Crossroads/Seven Corners Revitalization Corporation Jan. 20.

The plan calls for a 6,000-square foot gymnasium to be added on the west side of the school next to the service drive along Leesburg Pike. A 54 by 86-foot creative play area and a hard surface sports court, also 54 by 86 feet, would be located in the courtyard area on the inside of the bus loop.

Members of Bailey’s PTA and residents from the surrounding neighborhoods provided input in the initial designs for the recreational facilities. FCPS plans to hold additional community meetings before the plans will be presented to Fairfax County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.

  1. I want to know where is the playground for these kids in this office building that looks like an office building for rehabilitating prisoners?

    1. Didn't you read the post? Or are just trying to be snarky and add more hate to the internets.

    2. The internet was built on snark! You've got a pretty low threshold for what constitutes adding hate to the internet. Perhaps you should be...returned to sender.

    3. I've been frequenting this site for about a year, and I'm really glad "Return To Sender Guy" finally became Annandale's Official Meme.

    4. Can we get t-shirts made? I'd love a return to sender hoodie or something

  2. This is nothing to celebrate. We could have done so much better for the kids.

    1. Who's "we"? This project was completed in record time after the County acted decisively to acquire this office building at an extremely favorable price. This gym is merely another example of how problems can be efficiently resolved when there's no quibbling about trivial details.

    2. Are you kidding! This building was offered as take it or leave it. Our BOS would not let any other ideas or suggestions be heard. This also should be two compeletly schools because one set of staff and PTA can not manage two buildings.

  3. I'm in favor of the WIllston site for a new school, but I think this is great news for Baileys!

  4. This only happened because because neighbors and parents fought for it. FCPS officials initially asserted that a gym wasn't necessary (for an elementary school!). Good job advocates!
