Steakhouse to open this spring in Bailey's Crossroads

Construction is underway on a LongHorn Steakhouse on Leesburg Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads across from the Skyline Center. The free-standing restaurant, next to the Olive Garden, is scheduled to open in May, said company spokesperson Heidi Schauer.

The menu includes burgers, sandwiches, salads, and cocktails, as well as steaks. The restaurant will be 6,275 square feet with seating for about 240 diners. “The restaurant’s design celebrates the natural beauty of the American West,” says Schauer, with wood and stone “interiors featuring updated, contemporary artwork and sculptures of horses, western landscapes, and sunsets.”

There are more than 530  LongHorn  Steakhouses in 40 states, including three in Northern Virginia – in Chantilly, Dulles, and Manassas. LongHorn is owned by Darden Restaurants, based in Orlando, Fla., which also owns the Olive Garden chain.

  1. Great! Another chain establishment that I will never frequent.

  2. Great to see that someone is willing to invest in the Bailey's Crossroads area; arrogant ignorant comments on this blog notwithstanding, I enjoy the food served in Longhorn Steakhouses.

    1. Enjoy your Darden restaurants - Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse - while I enjoy the many smaller locally-owned restaurants, which the Annandale blog reports on as well.

  3. Too bad a restaurant like this will never appear on Little River Turnpike or Columbia Pike in Annandale.

    1. Yes, and likewise, I'm sure the residents of DC and Arlington are mourning the reality that they will have get a Longhorn Steakhouse in their jurisdictions.

    2. 35 years ago Annandale had 2 Steak houses

  5. Remember when Bailey's was going to be redeveloped with a transit center where this restaurant is going. Oh well maybe in another 20 years.

    2. Well thanks to the lack of will, enthusiasm and push by the BoS in Arlington and Fairfax we have gotten screwed again. No transit = continued traffic congestion and no magnet to lure TAX PAYING AND ECONOMIC DRIVING young professionals into the dump to put their cash.

No investment by these counties means that 2nd and 3rd rate establishments are going to land here, and we should be thankful to get that. It really is unfortunate that these two counties have no real interest in spurring growth in Baileys. And that goes for Alexandria too, with that Landmark dump. I was hoping that while they were building the 395 HOT lanes that the entire complex would suffer a landslide into smithereens and get buried under the HOT lanes.

Just thank your lucky starts that some idiot in Richmond didnt decide to put the DMV in this location.

So stop complaining and welcome the Longhorn restaurant, its a big improvement over the status quo here which is typically ZERO.

    3. i don't think you can blame Arlington for what Fairfax approves.

    4. Arlington got us all reeved up over the street car and then cancelled it. And Fairfax was not exactly there helping the County Board Chair of Arlington from dropping the ball.

And whether you agreed w it or not, it would have been a major catalyst in kick starting Baileys from a slum to an up and coming neighborhood. Thank you BoS for doing nothing, you just keep looking at your spreadsheets trying to move money around to save the County's budget year instead of brining re-invigerating funds into this area. It seems that your spreadsheets may have gotten stuck in Tysons.

Time to hit the refresh button.

    5. our leadership should have seen a mile away that the streetcar was never going to happen. even without the street car, columbia pike on the arlington side is getting a lot of nice new development but 1 mile down the road in Fairfax, nothing. very strange

  6. I for one am excited. Finally something that is not a Loan Shark, Pizza, Korean, Dollar Store or a DMV. They also take care of their area and keep trash cleaned up.

    1. I agree completely. You gotta walk before you can run.

    2. I wish we would get something like this in downtown Annandale.

    3. I agree CD. I love additional eating choices. Is it a chain? Yes. But its still investment which is awesome. I head down that way a decent amount to visit the olive garden.

I also agree I would love to see some of this come to the other revitalization areas, such as annandale and 7 corners, though 7 corners i guess no one can touch now unless they are willing to put the highrise to comply with the comp plan :-/

    4. It is really sad that no one on this blog seems to appreciate the smaller businesses and restaurants in Annandale and Mason District, I know LOTS of people who come from out of Mason District to patronize them. Olive Garden and Longhorn Steakhouse suck, and the more upscale areas and newer developments certainly aren't welcoming them with open arms as "investors". Let's see Longhorn Steakhouse try and open up in Mosaic...LOL.

    5. To: CD @ 10:35 AM,
We do have something better in Down Town Annandale,
      it's called Silverado...and it's not a national chain.

    6. Naz, not that I've got anything against Silverado or chains, but Great American has like, a dozen locations in the DMV. @ 518, I don't know if I'd agree with you. I think there are lots of people on here that like the smaller places. There usually a couple positive comments after Ellie posts a review of a new restaurant or shop.

    7. @NaZdrovya - I know we have Silverado's and I love Silverado's but we need some diversity in Annandale. We have Dice Burger which I also visit but after that we do not have much else in downtown Annandale except Korean. I remember the days of Fritzbe's, Weston's, Fuddrucker's, Ribsters, donut shop, New Orlean's Gator Restaurant, Shooney's, Italian Restaurants (Little Italy?), Black Orchid, three movie theaters, Gun Store, Sports Store, Record Stores, and much more. We do not have this anymore so I would love to bring something to Annandale.

    8. While GA has several different restaurants in their ownership they have various themes and are not rubber stamped like the national chains. And it's good food, not earthshaking but reliable.

    9. CD, you must be referring to a LONG time ago, because I've been here for a number of years, and I hardly remember any of those establishments. Shoney's was garbage. Movie Theaters haven't been here in decades?? Fuddruckers is dying everywhere, not just in Annandale.

    10. It was a LONG time ago the 80's and 90's. We also had a Drug Fair, Memco, Shakey's, and a Craft Store.

  7. I much prefer frequenting privately-owned restaurants. This is yet another disappointment. I won't be eating there.

    1. I prefer that as well and that is how it used to be in Annandale but if my choice is more loan sharks, Korean food, pizza or dollar store I will choice a chain restaurant who maintains their property anyday. Are choices have been slim lately.

    2. its a false choice. it has only become that way as our supervisor is lazy and doesn't take the time to try to attract high end local chains or start ups and goes the easy route with massive chains. maybe b/c they have deeper pockets to donate to campaigns?

      Delete
    3. It may be a false choice but unfortunately people voted our supervisor back in so we have 4 more years of the same. We have to make due with what we have at this point.

    4. The reason I like chain restaurants, especially when traveling away from home, is that you know what you are getting.
