Free summer concerts start June 1

The amphitheater at Mason District Park.
Mason District’s Spotlight by Starlight summer concerts start Wednesday, June 1, 7:30 p.m., with Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys (American roots) at Mason District Park on Columbia Pike in Annandale.

The first of the 2016 series of international shows at Ossian Hall Park is Saturday, June 4, 7:30 p.m., with Korean Cultural Night.

There are free shows at the amphitheater in Mason District Park on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. through Aug. 31, offering a wide variety of musical genres, including jazz, rockabilly, big band, R&B, soul, rock, zydeco, and more.

Rounding out the first couple of weeks in Mason District Park are the Annandale Jazz Ambassadors on June 3, the City of Fairfax Concert Band on June 5, the Kruger Brothers Band (folk) on June 8, the Harley String Band on June 10 (folk/Americana), and Cathedral Brass on June 12.

There are also some Saturday morning children’s shows at Mason District Park. The first one will be June 21 with the Grandsons Jr.

The free shows at Ossian Hall Park, 7:30-8:30 p.m. every Saturday through Aug. 27, feature music and dance from other countries. Upcoming shows are Chinese Cultural Heritage Night on June 11 and Bulgarian Cultural Heritage Night with Lyuti Chushki on June 18. The park is at 7900 Heritage Drive, Annandale.

The Mason District Park amphitheater has benches, but there’s no seating at Ossian Hall Park so it’s a good idea to bring a blanket or chair. If it looks like rain, call to 703-324-7469 (SHOW) to see if the show is canceled.
