A quiet, tree-lined street in Annandale was swarming with SWAT personnel, police officers, and EMTs, as law enforcement responded to reports of shots fired inside a home.
One adult man was found deceased in the backyard of a single-family house on the 3400 block of Beverly Drive. An adult woman, who also had been shot, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A suspect, an adult male, gave himself up inside the house and is in police custody, reports Fairfax County Police spokesperson Tawny Wright.
“Several children” were inside the home at the time of the shooting, she said. They were not harmed. Wright could not provide any further information about them, other than to say they were not harmed.
The police have not announced the names or ages of the victims or suspect, pending notification of relatives. Finding a translator has also caused delays, as there is a language barrier.
According to Wright, the suspect and victims all knew one another but the relationships and where they lived in the house where shooting occurred haven’t been determined.
A neighbor, Ramzy Gibran, who was walking his dogs nearby at the time, heard at least one gunshot. “It’s scary,” said Gibran, who’s lived there for 33 years and says it’s a quiet neighborhood.
He said residents had gotten an automated call from Fairfax County at about 1:30 p.m. telling them to stay inside. That was followed by another call a little after 3 p.m. giving the all-clear.
