Part of Route 50 in Seven Corners was shut down this evening, leading to detours and long delays, as the Fairfax County Police Department investigated a robbery and suspicious package at the TD Bank at 6198 Arlington Blvd.

According to local news reports, the suspect told bank employees he had left a backpack with explosives in it outside the bank before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash, leading to an investigation by the FCPD bomb squad. At about 7 p.m., the FCPD tweeted that the “device has been rendered inert.” The police wouldn’t say what kind of device it was.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s with white hair in a ponytail. He was wearing a yellow hat, sunglasses, gray shirt, and blue jeans.

In other crime news, the FCPD reports there was an attempted abduction in the 3600 block of Barcroft View Terrace in the Baileys Crossroads area on July 4. A resident told police a man was grabbing children as they were watching fireworks in a common area of the apartment complex.

Police located the suspect, who appeared to be highly intoxicated. Witnesses said they saw the man inappropriately touch two boys, one age 4 and the other age 6. A parent intervened and the children were not injured.

The suspect, Maximino Hercules Ayala, 29, of no fixed address, was arrested and transported to the Adult Detention Center, center where he was charged with two counts of attempted abduction and being drunk in public.

  1. "Of no fixed address" wait I thought there was no crime around the homeless shelter. I forgot it is not a problem because it is much harder for the homeless to snatch a senior than young boy.

  2. "The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s"

And somehow, the perennial "return to sender" commenter is nowhere to be found...

    1. Thumbs up! Thank you.

  3. The problem w ur statement Anon 9:45 AM. If we return the piece of crap to sender he will end up right back in the Mason District where he belongs. The dumping ground for plenty of white and all sorts of other third world trash that should be sent to Syria.

    1. Oh, wah, wah, wah. Let it go already, you bitter prune! Send yourself to Syria, m-kay? We don't need "your type" around here!

    2. Cant deal with the truth and got your head in the do belong here in never never land.
