Volunteers collecting donated food Saturday at three local Giants

The ACCA food pantry needs to be replenished. [ACCA]
On Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., volunteers from several faith communities will be collecting canned goods and other foodstuffs at three Giant stores for local food pantries. This effort is part of the annual Day to Serve project.

The volunteers will be accepting donations at the Giant grocery stores on Little River Turnpike and Columbia Pike in Annandale, the Bradlick Shopping Center on Backlick Road, and the Giant on Route 7 in Bailey’s Crossroads.

The donated food will go to the food pantries at the Annandale Christian Community for Action (ACCA) in Annandale and the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Seven Corners.

Volunteers from the Annandale Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will join members of the Fairfax County Interfaith Communities for Dialogue, including the Baha’i of East Fairfax, Congregation Olam Tikvah, Dar Al-Hijrah, Durga Temple, John Calvin Presbyterian Church, Ravensworth Baptist Church, and the Sikh Foundation of Virginia in collected food donated by shoppers and stocking the shelves at the two pantries.

Day to Serve was established in response to a proclamation by the governors and Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia and the mayor of Washington, D.C., calling on individuals, faith communities, and other organizations to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11 through service projects that help feed the poor, clean streams and parks, or similar community efforts.
