A baby alligator was discovered in a home in the Amberleigh Apartments on the the 8200 block of Adenlee Avenue near Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Animal protection police officers were called for a report of an alligator being kept in the home, according to an item on the Fairfax County Police Department blog. They could not make contact with the owner that day but returned the following day, Jan. 11, and told the owner it is illegal to own an alligator without a special permit.

The alligator was impounded by the state wildlife biologist and taken to Richmond, where it will be used for educational purposes. No charges were placed on the owner.
