Stuart Pyramid School Resource Fair scheduled for Aug. 10 at Stuart High School

Crowds gather at Stuart High School at a previous Stuart Pyramid School Resource Fair.
Families served by all the elementary and middle schools that feed into JEB Stuart High School are invited to the third annual Stuart Pyramid School Resource Fair Aug. 10, 1-5 p.m., at Stuart.

The fair will have free school supplies, books, health screenings, haircuts, and back-to-school clothes for kids plus information for parents about community and school resources. The goal is to ensure 100 percent of local students start the 2017 school year ready to learn.

Schools in the Stuart pyramid include Bailey’s, Beech Tree, Belvedere, Glen Forest, Parklawn, and Sleepy Hollow elementary schools; Glasgow Middle School; and Stuart High School. More than 67 percent of students in the pyramid qualify for free or reduced-price school meals.

The Rotary Club of Bailey’s Crossroads is the overall organizer of the 2017 fair, with support from the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services and Fairfax County Public Schools. Many community organizations, businesses, and individuals have donated funds and services to make the event a success.

The Rotary Club is purchasing school supplies at a discount and staging a “Great Assembly” on July 29 where volunteers will put together 2,300 packages for students. It’s at the Arlington Moose Lodge at 5710 Scoville St., Bailey’s Crossroads.

After the School Resource Fair, on Aug. 12, the Rotary Club will help Britepaths distribute school supplies for students in the Stuart pyramid and a few other nearby schools. The staging site for that event will be at Glen Forest Elementary School in Bailey’s Crossroads.
