Annandale/Mason athletes honored

Two student athletes, a coach, and a parent from the Mason District were among the recipients of the Fairfax County Athletic Council’s 2012 Champions of Character Awards.  The Board of Supervisors presented the awards at a ceremony Oct. 23.

Congratulations to:

  • Noah Satorius, a basketball player with the Annandale Sports Club and “an exceptional young man who always exhibits the best in personal integrity, courage, and sportsmanship.”
  • Madison Albrecht, a player on a travel soccer team with the Annandale Boys and Girls Club and a three-sport athlete at JEB Stuart High School who also excels in the classroom.
  • Sharon Ponton, girls volleyball coach at Stuart who established a developmental volleyball program for middle-school girls.
  • Juan Nelson Zavaleta Mejia, a parent volunteer recognized for his support of the Futbal Positivo program.

The Champions of Character Awards are aimed at “restoring the ennobling tradition of amateur athletic competition” by recognizing individuals for “extraordinary service in pursuing victory with honor.”
