Flu vaccines available in Annandale

Despite, widespread reports of flu vaccine shortages, people in Annandale should be able to get a vaccine. Both the Safeway pharmacy at 7414 Little River Turnpike, and the CVS at 7205 Little River Turnpike have the vaccine. Click here to find other local pharmacies. Clinics operated by the Fairfax County Department of Health also have the flu vaccine, including the one in Annandale.

The Inova hospital system has scheduled two additional flu vaccination clinics for the public at Inova Fairfax Hospital: Saturday, Jan., 12, and Saturday, Jan. 26. Both clinics are 9 a.m.-noon in the women’s Health Atrium. For more information, contact Brittney Mann, 703/698-2424.

In response to a national flu epidemic, Inova is temporarily restricting visitors at all facilities, including Fairfax Hospital. Only two blocks of visiting hours are permitted: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Visitors under the age of 18 or with symptoms of influenza-like illnesses are banned. Only two visitors are allowed to see a patient at one time. Further restrictions could apply to those visiting adult critical care and oncology patients and patients in women’s and children’s units.

Virginia is one of 47 states with “widespread influenza activity,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports. The CDC recommends everyone age 6 and older get a flu vaccine. For information on local resources, visit the flu section of the Fairfax County Health Department website.
