Suspect killed, officer injured following police chase in Annandale

A man is dead and a Mason District police officer is critically injured following a crash on Little River Turnpike at the beltway overpass in Annandale, a Fairfax County Police Department bulletin reports.

The incident started when officers responded to a domestic call in the 4800 block of Tapestry Drive in Fairfax Wednesday night. Officers briefly spoke with a man, later identified as Cicero I. Limberea, age 40, of no fixed address, who then left. The officer saw him speed down Roberts Road, then make a right turn into oncoming traffic onto Little River Turnpike driving eastbound in the westbound lanes for several miles. He barely missed striking several vehicles

The officer who was injured was responding to the incident and was struck head on by Limbera. He is 28 years old but was not identified by the police department. The officer suffered numerous injuries in the crash, was trapped in his vehicle, and had to be cut out of the police cruiser before he could be transported by ambulance to the hospital. He is in stable condition. Limbera was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:30 a.m. The accident is under investigation by the Crash Reconstruction Unit.
