Victory Lane Aquatic Club has a new coach

The Victory Lane Aquatic Club (VLAC) is continuing under a new coach, Shawn Mansfield.

The swimming program was founded in 2008 by Clayton Joyner of Annandale, who died in May at the age of 29. Joyner had been a champion swimmer on the Falls Church High School swim team and was a coach for the Falls Church High School and Holmes Run Pool swim teams.

Mansfield, the manager of VLAC, is carrying on the legacy of Coach CJ through his enthusiasm for and commitment to swimming. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Mansfield is certified as a coach by Potomac Valley Swimming (PVS) and is an amateur triathlete, Ironman racer, and father of five.

VLAC is sanctioned by PVS and has produced several champion swimmers. The club’s mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle by incorporating core social values through swimming. Swimmers are not only trained to become better athletes, but are also encouraged to become future leaders in society through dedication, hard work, and good sportsmanship.

The fall session runs from Sept. 8-Nov. 25. Practices take place at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia, 8900 Little River Turnpike in Fairfax. The club serves swimmers from age 6 through high school. The cost is based on the number of practice sessions swimmers sign up for each week.

For more information, contact coach Shawn Mansfield, 703-507-4756.
