Genealogists invited to 'night owl' research session in Virginia Room

Genealogists and local historians are invited to a free “night owl” research session at Fairfax County Public Library’s Virginia Room on Friday, Oct. 10, 6-11 p.m.

The Virginia Room is located on the second floor of the City of Fairfax Regional Library, 10360  North Street, Fairfax.

Participants can do independent research or attend classes and drop-in sessions. Classes are scheduled on how to research the history of a Fairfax County property (6-7:15 p.m.) and how to use the library edition of Ancestry (7:30-8:45 p.m.).

Drop-in sessions include a genealogy help desk (6-8 p.m.); family research at the National Archives, Virginia Historical Society, and Library of Virginia; and research on Fairfax County cemeteries (6-9 p.m.).

Library staff will also be on hand to assist researchers. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Virginia Room. Researchers must register in advance and must arrive before 6 p.m. For more information, call 703-293-6227, x6.
