Two Glasgow students hit by car

Two Glasgow Middle School students were struck by a car at 7 a.m. this morning in the 3400 block of Slade Run Drive, Falls Church. They were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Fairfax County Police Department spokesperson Bud Walker.

The driver stayed on the scene and has not been charged. The accident is under investigation.

According to a nearby the resident, the children were a brother and sister, an 8th-grade boy and 6th-grade girl. The resident didn't see the accident but says it happened less than one house away from the bus stop. “There are no sidewalks where it occurred. It was frightening,” the resident says. “I stayed on the scene with the boy and another mom with the girl. 911 was called right away. The driver stayed on the scene.”

Another neighbor reports the boy has a broken arm and the girl has a concussion and was admitted to the hospital for observation.

Glasgow Middle School Principal Penny Gros sent the following message to parents and guardians:

“Two of our students were struck by a vehicle this morning while walking to their bus stop in the 3400 block of Slade Run Drive. The students were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Many of our students heard about the accident and were understandably upset when they arrived at school. We made counselors and social workers available to assist any students who needed support.  I am making you aware of this situation so that you can provide any support your children might need. Keep us informed if there are ways we can assist you. I also want to thank our emergency responders who quickly arrived on the scene to help our students. If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to call the school office.”

  1. Thank goodness that the students weren't more seriously injured, even though a concussion can have a very long recovery. At 7:00 am Friday it was fairly light out, sun almost up, I would think that the driver should have been able to see them even if they were wearing dark clothes. Very scary incident!!!
