Planning Commission defers decision on Spectrum rezoning application

The Fairfax County Planning Commission on Jan. 22 approved commissioner Julie Strandlie’s (Mason) request to defer until Feb. 11 a decision on Spectrum Development’s rezoning applications for a shopping center on Leesburg Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads.

The delay will give Spectrum more time to make changes in its application. At a Planning Commission hearing on the proposal Jan. 14, local residents, Fairfax County staff, and commissioners raised numerous concerns – about the drive-through pharmacy, loading dock, design of the shopping center, alignment of Charles Street and Glen Forest Drive, and other issues.

Members of the public can continue to submit comments to the Planning Commission until Feb. 11. The Board of Supervisors is expected to delay its public hearing on the Spectrum application, which is currently scheduled for Jan. 27.
