The death of a 56-year-old woman in Annandale Dec. 21 is being investigated as homicide, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

The body of Kum Yeon of Alexandria was found in a house on the 7100 block of Pennys Town Court shortly after 5 p.m. The home was the residence of a 73-year-old man who has been transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Both Yeon and the man, an acquaintance of hers, are believed to have been electrocuted, but the actual cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office. According to a police department spokesperson, there was a live wire touching the victim.

The man is considered a suspect in the woman’s death, and according to a police spokesperson, he tried to harm himself.

Another source, who identified the man as Jaeyeon Cho, said he and Yeon were involved in a romantic relationship. Cho was living in a rented room in the basement, and the owner of the house was out of town during the incident.

Fairfax Police had gone to the house at the request of the City of Alexandria Police Department to check on the welfare of Yeon. They entered the house after looking through a window and seeing two people lying on the floor. The woman was dead and the man was unconscious.

  1. If they were just an acquaintance why would the City of Alexandria ask Fairfax County to look in on her. There seems to be much more to this story.

    1. Read the article again.

    2. I honestly do not know how I missed that paragraph the first time. It is a Duh moment.

  2. With a name like Kum Yeon (금연) ... I can't help but wonder if she was a smoker?
