Huge book sale at George Mason Regional Library has comics, games, first editions

Large selection of comics. [GMF]
The semi-annual book sale April 27-30 at George Mason Regional Library in Annandale features movies, music, and videogames as well as 80 categories of books.

There’s an entire room dedicated to children’s titles, sorted by subject and reading level.

The event, hosted by George Mason Friends, is open 3-9 p.m. on Thursday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, and noon-5 p.m. on Sunday.

“Our generous and diverse community always donates new surprises, and different themes emerge for every sale,” says Laura Noble of the Friends group. “This spring we have a strong Comic-Con vibe, with many donations from gamers and serious comic book collectors.”

The book sale is all over the library.
There is a huge selection of comic books, all in terrific condition, Noble says, plus a varied selection of new and used video games for all ages, manuals for role-playing games, and even a few complete Dungeons and Dragons game sets.

“Another theme that caught our attention this spring as we sorted donations was an unusual number of books about the mistresses and love affairs of famous historical figures, along with an abundance of celebrity biographies,” she says.

Other highlights include:
  • A first edition of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World
  • A large assortment of Teaching Company courses
  • A complete set of 2013 World Book encyclopedias in very nice condition, and
  • A collector’s set of Louis L’Amour novels.
Proceeds from the sale benefit George Mason Regional Library and the entire Fairfax County library system. In 2016, George Mason Friends donated $50,000 to the Fairfax County Children’s Summer Reading Program. This year, the Friends began sponsoring an annual a library sciences scholarship for Fairfax County staff and volunteers.
