Fire damages mattress store

A two-alarm fire heavily damaged the Overstock Mattress store at 5912 Leesburg Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads Friday afternoon, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports. Units from the Alexandria and Arlington fire departments assisted. [Photos: FCFRD]

The fire was discovered by an employee who called 911. Four people were in the store at the time. There were no reported civilian or fire fighter injuries. The store was not equipped with smoke alarms or a sprinkler system.

Fire investigators determined that the fire was accidental and started in the back of the store. It was caused by combustible materials located too close to a heat source. Total damages are approximately $1.363 million.

No other stores in the shopping center were affected but a Health Department representative was requested to inspect adjoining restaurants prior to reopening.

  1. Oh no, the only mattress store in our midst. Whatever will we do.

  2. The fine people of Vienna to the north will take in the mattress store employees as their own. Vienna takes care of their mattress people.
