Bailey's Crossroads Rotary Club hosts 'Great Assembly" to package school supplies

Rotary club members package school supplies.
Members of the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club and other volunteers packaged more than 2,300 school supply kits for distribution to students at the Stuart Pyramid Back to School Resource Fair next week.

The Resource Fair, Aug. 10, 1-5 p.m., at JEB Stuart High School, is aimed at making sure students start the 2017 school year ready to learn. In addition to free school supplies, the fair provides free health screenings, books, haircuts, and back-to-school clothes for kids plus information for parents about community and school resources.

To save money on school supplies, the Rotary Club hosted a “Great Assembly” July 29 at Arlington Moose Lodge 1315 in Bailey’s Crossroads, where dozens of volunteers put together packages for students. This event has helped reduce fair costs by about 40 percent.

The Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club is the overall organizer of the 2017 fair, with support from the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services, Fairfax County Public Schools, community organizations, and businesses.

All families served by schools in the Stuart pyramid are encouraged to attend. Those schools include Bailey’s, Beech Tree, Belvedere, Glen Forest, Parklawn, and Sleepy Hollow elementary schools; Glasgow Middle School; and Stuart High School.

Volunteers are still needed to help out at the Resource Fair. To sign up, click here and select “volunteer.”
