New sidewalk planned for Backlick Road

The red line shows where a new sidewalk is planned on Backlick Road.
Staff from the Fairfax County Department of Transportation will explain plans for a new walkway along Backlick Road in Annandale at a community meeting on Nov. 9.

The meeting, hosted by Mason Supervisor Penny Gross, starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Mason Government Center.

The $1.5 million project calls for a 750-foot long, six-foot wide sidewalk between Degroff Court and Cindy Lane, along with drainage improvements consisting of new curbs and gutters, curb ramps, and reconstruction of driveway entrances. The cost covers right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation, and tree removal, as well as construction.

Funds come from the county’s 2014 transportation bond. Construction would be done in 2020.

The same strip with no police monitoring for speeders over 25mph after Poe middle school lets out. Buses have a difficult time getting onto Backlick rd. due to drivers not slowing down.

Thank you,
When walking in the evenings, the sidewalk disappears in this section. It is good that the sidewalk is being added.

That road has a relatively high speed limit for the area and is also blocks away from poe. I think you are confused.

Curbs with outflow gutters into Annandale Acres?

Annandale Acres and water issues since 1962, is this to be another?

I think this is great but I feel it is more needed along Braddock Road. There are parts of Braddock Road (Between Backlick & 495) with no sidewalks and people actually walk out into the road way to walk down the street. Quite dangerous. The section on Backlick does need a sidewalk but at least for now it has a path parts of Braddock does not even have a path.
